The braking system is one of the core components of the safe operation of the forward forklift. If there is an abnormal sound problem, it will not only affect the operation experience, but also lay a potential safety hazard. For the abnormal brake sound problem of BYD forward forklift, we can check the root cause through precise maintenance and sort out the corresponding replacement parts to ensure the stable braking performance of the forklift.
Common causes of abnormal brake noise and maintenance steps
1. Excessive brake pad wear
When the thickness of the brake pads is lower than the safety threshold, the metal back plate will directly rub against the brake disc, generating a sharp abnormal sound. When overhauling, remove the brake calipers and take out the brake pads to measure the thickness. If the value is lower than the safety standard stipulated by the manufacturer, it needs to be dealt with in time.
2. Uneven brake disc wear
Frequent braking for a long time may lead to grooves and uneven wear on the surface of the brake disc. When braking, the contact between the brake pads and the uneven disc surface will produce vibration and abnormal noise. When overhauling, observe the surface state of the brake disc and measure the deviation with a flatness detection tool. If it exceeds the allowable range, you can try to polish and repair it. If it cannot be repaired, it needs to be replaced.
3. Brake caliper failure
The guide pin and piston of the brake caliper are not in good position, which will cause the brake pad and the brake disc to continue to fit and rub, causing abnormal noise. During maintenance, the caliper needs to be disassembled, the guide pin should be cleaned and special grease should be applied to check whether the piston sealing ring is aging. If there is a sealing failure problem, the parts should be replaced in time.
4. Abnormal brake fluid
The brake fluid has not been replaced for a long time and deteriorates, or the pressure of the brake pipeline is uneven due to air mixing, which may also be accompanied by abnormal noises. Check the color and purity of the brake fluid during maintenance. If there is turbid or black phenomenon, the old fluid needs to be completely emptied and replaced with a new liquid, and the pipeline air discharge operation needs to be completed at the same time.
Second, organize the small pieces that need to be replaced
According to the maintenance results of the above common faults, the small parts that need to be replaced mainly include the following categories: first, the brake pads, which can be replaced when they are worn excessively and cannot continue to be used; second, the brake caliper guide pin sleeve, which can be replaced when there is wear, card or lubrication failure; third, the brake fluid, which needs to be replaced when it deteriorates or mixed with impurities; fourth, the brake caliper sealing ring, which can be replaced when the seal fails due to aging; fifth, the brake disc, which cannot be replaced when the wear is serious and cannot be repaired by grinding.
When replacing small parts, it is necessary to choose accessories with suitable specifications. After installation, multiple brake tests are required to confirm that abnormal noises are completely eliminated and the braking force is uniform and stable, so as to restore the normal operation of the forklift. In daily use, it is recommended to regularly check the status of the brake system components and replace the aging or worn small parts in time to avoid abnormal noises and more serious braking failures from the source and ensure the safe operation of the forklift.
